El canciller mexicano, Luis Videgaray, cambió personalmente el discurso de Donald Trump, en el que el presidente de EU anunció una orden ejecutiva que incluía la construcción del muro fronterizo, de acuerdo con funcionarios mexicanos citados por la cadena CBS News.
Según CBS News, cuando Videgaray visitó Washington el mismo día en que Trump firmaría la orden, el yerno y asesor del presidente, Jared Kushner, le mostró al canciller mexicano el discurso que el mandatario iba a leer ese día ante el Departamento de Seguridad Nacional.
Tras leer el discurso, Videgaray, indica CBS, estaba horrorizado, y considero que el discurso no era un buen punto de partida.

Mexican Foreign Minister Luis Videgaray personally made changes to President Donald Trump’s speech announcing an Executive Order calling for the construction of a border wall, according to Mexican officials.
When Mexican Foreign Minister Luis Videgaray came to the White House in January, on the same day that Mr. Trump was to sign the Executive Order, administration aide Jared Kushner showed him the speech the president was going to deliver that day at Homeland Security. Videgaray was horrified, according to the Mexican officials, and deemed the speech a non-starter.
The draft remarks would drive the two countries, whose relationship Videgaray was there to try and redress, even further apart. It would also continue to hack at President Pena’s approval ratings in his own country. Kushner suggested they re-write the speech together to make it less damaging.
Kusher and Videgaray changed what they could, casting a more positive light on the future of the US-Mexico relationship. Then the two of them then went into the Oval office so Kushner could brief Mr. Trump on the changes. Trump angrily threw up his hands, wondering why he should read the new version. With Videgaray standing by, Mr. Trump was ultimately convinced to make the changes.
“I think our relationship with Mexico is going to get better,” Mr. Trump said after explaining his view that the illegal immigration from Central America is hurting both the US and Mexico.
According to Mexican officials, Kushner is now handling everything between the two countries, and personally trying to keep the relationship from disintegrating further.
In the end, the speech Mr. Trump gave was far more measured than the original draft. Mr. Trump did not reiterate his now infamous line that Mexico will pay for the wall. He focused instead on the wall’s construction. Still, Mr. Trump’s ambitions to build a wall remained enact in the remarks and in his executive order.
The Executive Order called for the immediate planning and construction of a wall on the US’s southern border, 5,000 additional border patrol agents and new border detention facilities. On that same day, Mr. Trump also announced new policies aimed at curbing the flow of migrants from Mexico and Central America into the United States and expediting the detention and removal of undocumented migrants already here.
Meanwhile Videgaray carried on in the White House for nine hours of meetings and came back to Washington on Wednesday to meet with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. Kushner attended the meeting.
The State Department deemed the “essential” US-Mexico relationship the focus of the Tillerson-Videgaray meeting.
“They had a constructive conversation on a range of U.S.-Mexico collaboration including law enforcement, migration, and security,” said Acting Spokesperson Mark Toner in a statement. Tillerson also agreed to visit Mexico City.
This meeting came just a week after Pena’s cancelled trip to the US, a result of Mr. Trump’s tweet saying that he should not come if he would not pay for the wall. Though the two leaders did have a phone call in which they agreed to reschedule the visit. Still, Pena and Mexican officials maintain that their country will not pay for a wall.
Mexican government officials are hoping to shift the dialogue away from the wall and onto trade. They say that the US and Mexico are now working on how to renegotiate NAFTA into what one Mexican Official called “NAFTA 2.0.”
The Mexican government announced that it is partaking in 90-day review of trade. They will speak to business leaders and government insiders alike before deciding on changes.

El Secretario mexicano de Relaciones Exteriores, Luis Videgaray, realizó personalmente cambios en el discurso del Presidente estadounidense, Donald Trump, en el que anunció una orden ejecutiva que incluía la construcción de un muro en la frontera sur, de acuerdo con funcionarios mexicanos citados por la cadena CBS.
Según el medio estadounidense, cuando Videgaray visitó la Casa Blanca en enero, el mismo día en que Trump firmaría la orden, su yerno y asesor, Jared Kushner, le mostró al Secretario mexicano el discurso que Presidente de EU leería ese día ante el Departamento de Seguridad Nacional.
Videgaray, según las fuentes del medio, estaba horrorizado, y considero que el discurso no era un buen punto de partida.
El borrador de ese discurso, dice el medio, habría distanciado aún más a los dos países y habría impactado en la popularidad del Presidente mexicano, Enrique Peña Nieto, en México.
Kushner sugirió entonces que reescribieran el discurso juntos, para que no hiciera tanto daño.
Kushner y Videgaray habrían cambiado cuanto pudieron, dotando al texto de un tono más positivo sobre el futuro de la relación México-Estados Unidos.
Posteriormente, los dos se dirigieron a la Oficina Oval para que Kushner pudiera informar a Trump sobre los cambios.
Trump, airadamente, según l medio, levantó las manos, preguntándose por qué debería leer la nueva versión.
Con el apoyo de Videgaray a Kushner, finalmente Trump accedió a leer esa versión.
"Creo que nuestra relación con México va a mejorar", afirmó Trump tras explicar su visión de que la inmigración ilegal procedente de América Central está lastimando tanto a México como a Estados Unidos.
Según funcionarios mexicanos citados por el medio, Kushner es quien personalmente maneja todo entre los dos países, y quien trata de evitar que la relación se desintegre aún más.
Así, el discurso que finalmente leyó Trump fue mucho más mesurado que el original.
Ese mismo día, Trump también anunció nuevas medidas encaminadas a frenar el flujo de migrantes de México y Centroamérica hacia Estados Unidos, y a agilizar la detención y la expulsión de inmigrantes indocumentados.
Mientras Trump daba su discursó, Videgaray siguió durante nueve horas en otras reuniones en la Casa Blanca, y, el miércoles, regresó a Washington para encontrarse con el Secretario de Estado estadounidense, Rex Tillerson. Kushner estuvo presente en el encuentro, según el medio.
"Los funcionarios del Gobierno mexicano esperan cambiar el diálogo sobre el muro y el comercio. Dicen que Estados Unidos y México trabajan ahora en cómo renegociar el TLC, algo que en un funcionario mexicano denominó como TLC 2.0", dice CBS.

La orden ejecutiva firmada por Trump pidió la planificación y construcción inmediata del muro en la frontera; la incorporación de 5 mil agentes a la Patrulla Fronteriza, y nuevas instalaciones de los Centros de Detención fronterizos.Ese mismo día, Trump también anunció nuevas medidas encaminadas a frenar el flujo de migrantes de México y Centroamérica hacia Estados Unidos, y a agilizar la detención y la expulsión de inmigrantes indocumentados.
