Orange Notice for escaped prisoners from Mexico (public version)
LYON, France – An international security alert, or Orange
Notice, has been issued by INTERPOL for 11 prisoners involved in a mass jail escape in Mexico.
INTERPOL immediately advised countries in the region following the jail escape in Zacatecas in northern Mexico on 16 May. It has now published the
Orange Notice on the 11 fugitives on the basis of key identifying information its General Secretariat received from the Mexican authorities.
INTERPOL’s
Command and Co-ordination Centre (CCC) at its General Secretariat headquarters in Lyon published the global alert at the request of INTERPOL’s National Central Bureau (NCB) in Mexico City, after Mexican authorities identified the 11 men as the most dangerous of the 53 prisoners who escaped during an assault on the prison by a heavily armed gang.
Sent via its secure
I-24/7 police communications network to all of INTERPOL’s 187 member countries, the Orange Notice includes identifying details of each of the fugitives to help law enforcement officers worldwide in their search and eventual identification when located and arrested. The Orange Notice also strongly recommends that INTERPOL’s member countries alert their relevant border authorities and specialist units responsible for fugitives.
“Making key identification elements available to police officers on the ground is crucial to efforts in locating and arresting fugitives as it severely limits their movements and ability to travel across borders,” said INTERPOL’s Executive Director of Police Services, Jean-Michel Louboutin.
“We therefore commend the Mexican authorities for working with INTERPOL to publish the information on these men which will ensure that all INTERPOL member countries are alerted as to the potential danger that these men represent to the public at large.”
The Orange Notice can be issued by INTERPOL’s
General Secretariat headquarters in Lyon for any act or event which poses a risk to the safety and security of citizens around the world.
